Giles was just about the biggest thug of the lot, mate. Madeley and Gray were just about the only exceptions. Reaney and Cooper were hard as nails but not especially bad for full-backs of their time. Jones was an old-fashioned lump of a centre forward. The rest were utter cunts, including Clarke, who was a dirty, sneaky cunt who was always in the ref's ear.

iirc Madeley made himself unavailable for the WC in Mexico 70 because he was 'too tired'. I've no reason to doubt him, but it caused a massive stink at the time.

RIP.

Re: Paul Madeley
From the Leeds team of that era Madeley stood out as the likeable one.

It was Paul Reaney who broke his leg at West Ham. Denied him going to the World Cup in 1970.

Paul Madeley Mr Versatile himself could play just about anywhere and part of that great Leeds team who pretty much dominated English football for a decade.

Remember him well - very good player. I have a vague recollection that he broke his leg in a game against West Ham. Is that right?

Re: Paul Madeley
Mainly a Centre Half/ Centre Back quality player in his day in an otherwise arrogant thuggish Leeds team.
